Subject: Burglary and Check Fraud Arrest

12 July 2016, an employee from Save Mart reported that a female attempted to purchase high dollar items using altered checks. The female left the store after the transaction was denied. The store employee provided a description of the female as well as a vehicle description and license plate number. Officers of the Sonora Police Department were able to locate and stop the vehicle a short distance away on Stockton Road.

Based on statements and evidence obtained during the investigation, officers identified and arrested 28 year old Nicole M. Cash of Sonora for the crimes associated with the Save Mart call. Cash is also suspected of depositing fraudulent checks at a Sonora bank on 8 July.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 20 year old Brian Gomes of Sonora. He was arrested for driving while unlicensed as his license status was determined to be suspended. During a search of the vehicle, officers located heroin and hypodermic needles. Officers also arrested passenger Vincent C. White, a 22 year old resident of Sonora for drug and paraphernalia charges.

This is an open and ongoing investigation.
