Felony Assault on a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest and Public Intoxication

On May 12th, 2017, at approximately 5:08 pm, the Sonora Police Department received a call of an intoxicated female subject behind the O’Reilly Auto Parts on Mono Way.  Upon arrival, the responding officer located 35 year-old Sonora transient, Tellena Hogland.

Hogland was immediately non-compliant with the officer and because she displayed objective symptoms of alcohol and drug use, she had to be detained in order to evaluate her level of intoxication.  Hogland tried pulling away from the officers when he attempted to escort her to level ground and as a result had to be handcuffed.  A decision was made to arrest Hogland and she continued to physically resist the officer as well as a second officer who arrived on scene to assist.  While the officers were attempting to place Hogland in the patrol car, she managed to twist herself into a position allowing her to bite one of the officer’s arm.  Hogland continued to clamp down on the officers arm making it necessary for him to use physical force to break free of her grasp.  Unfortunately, the officer sustained significant bruising and broken skin as a result of the attack.  Hogland was not injured during the altercation, and the name of the injured officer is not being released at this time.

Tellena Hogland was booked at the Tuolumne County Jail for felony Battery on a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, Public Intoxication and suspicion of being Under the Influence of Drugs.  Additionally, Hogland is on active felony probation out of Tuolumne County and charges are being sought in relation to violating the established terms of her probation.  Hogland’s bail was set at $10,000.
