Re: Non Sworn Measure I Salary Increase
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The Personnel Committee, which consists of Mayor Dave Sheppard and Councilmember Hank Russell, met on this issue on October 18, 2005. The Personnel Committee unanimously recommended this be considered by the City Council. Non-Sworn members of Sonora Police Department receive a 2.5% salary increase in January of 2006 and an additional 2.5% salary increase in July of 2006 for a total of 5%. This salary increase would come from Measure I funds.
BACKGROUND:
Measure I was passed to allow salary increases to all members of the Sonora Police Department. The Sonora Police Officers Association has negotiated and received salary increases related to Measure I. To this point non-sworn members of the Sonora Police Department have not received any salary increases related to Measure I.
DISCUSSION:
Many
non sworn members of the Sonora Police Department were instrumental in getting
Measure I passed by the voters of Sonora. These non-sworn members went from door
to door just prior to the election answering questions and contacting voters encouraging
them to vote. To this date none of these non-sworn members of the Sonora Police
Department have received salary increases related to Measure I. Measure I allows
for this salary increase and due to their hard work during the election process
they deserve to be awarded this 5% increase.
