Assault with a deadly weapon and robbery

On October 17, 2017 around 4:00 p.m., Sonora Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Stockton Road and Hwy108 for a report of an assault. Officers arrived on scene and met with CHP Officers who had been flagged down by a male and female couple, reporting the assault. Sonora Police Officers initiated a criminal investigation and determined that the couple was transients who had been sleeping in a tent east of Stockton Road near Hwy 108 earlier that afternoon when the female victim was pulled from the tent. The male was not allowed to exit the tent as a suspect stood on the tent in front of the door, blocking any ingress or egress for the tent. The unknown suspects demanded money and stole several items of personal property belonging to the couple. The suspect eventually left the area and the male victim located the female lying on the ground with a head injury. It is believed the female was struck in the head with a hard object during the altercation. The male was able to assist the female victim to Stockton Road where they flagged down two CHP Officers driving by their location. The female victim was transported to Adventist Health Sonora by ambulance. The extent of her injuries is not currently known.

The Sonora Police Department is asking the public for assistance in this matter to report any suspicious activity they may have observed in that area during the time of the incident or to provide any known information concerning this incident.

This investigation is still on-going.
