11 January 2016, at approx. 8:00 A.M., an argument over a parking issue erupted between two neighbors on the 300 block of Barretta Street. During the argument, one of the neighbors, who was identified as James Katz, 39 of Sonora; picked up a large piece of wood, then threw it at his neighbor, in an attempt to hit him with it.
The neighbor was able to dodge the piece of wood, but the wood struck a shovel the neighbor was holding. The force of the wood shattered the shovel handle. Katz then got into his vehicle and drove away. The victim didn’t sustain any injuries.
12 January 2016, at approx. 4:50 P.M. Katz was located at the Sonora Grocery Outlet, where he was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for felony assault with a deadly weapon.
