13 February 2011, at approx. 9:31 pm, Sonora Regional Medical Center called the Sonora Police Department and requested an Officer respond to the emergency room and speak with a male patient. It was reported that the patient wanted to confess something to an Officer.
When the Officer arrived, they were pointed to a male subject sitting on a bed in the emergency room. The subject was identified as James Dushane, a 58 year old transient. As the Officer spoke with Dushane, Dushane was none responsible. Then without warning, Dushane jumped the Officer and grabbed the Officer’s sidearm and attempted to remove it from the holster. A wrestling match insured over the weapon between the Officer and Dushane. The Officer was finally able to gain control of his service weapon and Dushane was taken into custody.
Dushane was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for;
• Felony attempting to take an officers weapon
• Misdemeanor battery on an officer
