Subject: Attempted Assault With A Deadly Weapon Arrest
14 Aug. 2010, at approx. 10:23 pm, Officers from the Sonora Police Department responded to Zane’s Iron Horse Lounge to a reported physical fight, with a knife being involved.
Upon officer’s arrival, they learned that Joseph Wohltman, 42, of Big Oak Flat, and two of his friends had been harassing two other male customers inside the lounge for several hours. At one point, Wohltman was overheard saying to his friends that he was, “going to stab one of them.”
Later, a verbal altercation insured between Wohltman and the two customers he had been harassing. Wohltman then blocked one of the customer’s path as they tried to walk away. At this point, Wohltman was holding a knife behind his back. Wohltman then swung at the customer with his free hand, as the customer tried to get by Wohltman. The customer reacted and punched Wohltman, who fell to the ground dropping the knife.
Wohltman was taken into custody and transported to the Tuolumne County Jail where he was booked for felony attempted assault with a deadly weapon.
