Attempted Homicide Arrest

On December 20th, the Sonora Police Department arrested 28-year-old Amanda Burback of Murphy’s for attempted homicide following an altercation that resulted in a stabbing.

At approximately 10:08 a.m., the Police Department received a 9-1-1 call concerning a physical fight in progress between two females at the business parking lot of 130 Stockton Road.  When officers arrived on scene, they identified Burback as one of the involved parties but were unable to identify who the other party was.  A short time later, the other involved female arrived at the Adventist Health Emergency Room reporting to have been stabbed.

Our investigation revealed that Burback and the another adult female began fighting over a prior boyfriend.  During the physical altercation, Burback produced a pocket knife and stabbed the victim two times in the abdomen while threatening to kill her.  The assault ended, and the parties dispersed as the sound of police sirens approached.

Ultimately, Burback was arrested for attempted homicide and booked at the Tuolumne County Jail.  The stab victim’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
