24 May 2015, at approx. 6:25 am, an off duty Tuolumne County Deputy called the Sonora Police Department and reported there was a male subject hooking up a tractor to the horse drawn antique wagon in front of Foothills Café, located at 636 Stockton Road.

An officer responded and contacted the male subject who was wearing a Cal Trans safety vest. The subject was identified as Daniel Parsons, 35 of San Lorenzo. Parsons alleged he had permission from the owners to take the wagon. He even produced a hand written invoice, which indicated the same.

However, when the owners of the business were contacted, they denied giving permission to Parsons to take the wagon. They also related they recently had an issue with Parsons and his son, who had purchased a business in the area. The value of the wagon was estimated between 1,000 and 2,000 dollars.

Parsons was placed under arrest without incident. He was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for attempted grand theft. It should be noted, Parsons is not a Cal Trans employee.
