Attempted Vehicle Theft Arrest

On Sunday October 1st, 2017, shortly before 2:00 P.M., Sonora Police Department received a call of a male subject that had been detained by Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Deputies for tampering with a Sheriff’s Department employee’s vehicle in front of the Sheriff’s Department. Sonora Police Officers responded and discovered that Antonia Torres, 42 years old of Redwood City, was discovered by Sheriff’s deputies tampering with a Sheriff’s Department employee’s private vehicle. Deputies then detained Torres and determined he had caused damage to the vehicle, totaling over $400 in value. Sonora Police Officers questioned Torres and determined he was actually attempting to steal the vehicle. Torres was arrested for attempted vehicle theft, felony vandalism and tampering with a vehicle. Torres was booked into the Tuolumne County jail where he is being held on $15,000 bail.
