Subject: Attempted Vehicle Theft Arrest
16 March 2010, at approx. 7:48 am, a male subject called the Sonora Police Department and reported that someone had just attempted to steal his vehicle, which was parked in front of his residence on the 100 block of Shepherd Street.
The victim related he had gone out to get into his vehicle and located a male juvenile inside his vehicle. When the victim confronted the juvenile, the juvenile exited the vehicle and took off running. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the victim noticed that the juvenile had damaged the ignition housing and removed the stereo system. The victim was able to give a detailed description of the juvenile.
At approx. 8:15 am, an officer located a juvenile standing in the parking lot of Cassina High School, who matched the description of juvenile suspect. The Officer detained the juvenile and contacted the victim. The victim responded and identified the 17 year old juvenile from Columbia as being the responsible party.
The juvenile was taken into custody without incident and turned over to the Tuolumne County Probation Department.
