Burglary and Attempted Vehicle Theft Arrest

On 30 June 2016, at approx. 1139 pm, Sonora Police Officers were dispatched to an auto sales lot on the 100 block of Stockton Road for an audible burglar alarm.

When the first officer arrived at the scene, he saw a male subject attempting to gain entry into the driver’s side door of a nearby pickup. The subject was contacted by the officer and was identified as 61-year-old John Deherrera of Sonora. The officer detained Deherrera after discovering a key in his hand as well as a pile of vehicle keys on the ground next to him.

During further investigation, it was determined that forced entry was made to the business office of the auto sales dealership and that several vehicle keys had been removed from the key box. Officers were able to associate the missing keys to those discovered in Deherrera’s possession. Deherrera was booked at the Tuolumne County Jail for felony burglary, felony attempted vehicle theft, and misdemeanor vehicle tampering.
