29 July 2010, Andy’s Home Center reported a burglary to the Sonora Police Department. During an inventory, the staff noticed a $900 compressor was missing. Upon reviewing their security video, they noticed in June, a subject removed several items from in front of the store without paying for them. Then, this same subject went inside the store and loaded an air compressor in to a shopping cart and wheeled it out a side door, without paying for it.
After the officer had taken the report and viewed the security video, he left the store. A short time later, the officer observed the truck that was in the video and stopped it. The officer contacted the driver, who was the same person in the security video. The driver was identified as being David Burke, 64, of Tuolumne.
Burke denied having any knowledge of the theft. With the assistance of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department, a search of Burke’s residence revealed the stolen compressor. However, the serial number had been removed.
Burke was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for;
• Felony burglary
• Felony possession of stolen property
• Felony grand theft
• Possession of property with the serial number removed
