Subject: Carjacking
16 January 2012, at approx. 7:20 pm, the Sonora Police Department responded to a reported carjacking in the parking lot of Big Lots, located in the Cross Roads Shopping Center.

Officer’s contacted the Victim who related she was sitting inside her vehicle, with the driver’s door open, smoking a cigarette, when an unknown male subject approached her and asked her for a cigarette. The Victim gave the unknown male subject a cigarette.

The suspect then told the victim that he also wanted her car. The victim felt this was a joke at first then the suspect brandished a knife at the victim. The suspected also demanded the victim’s cell phone and her purse. The victim exited her vehicle and told the suspect to take everything. The suspect then told the victim “thanks” and drove away in the victim’s vehicle.

Officers contacted the victim’s cell phone provider and were able to obtain the location of the victim’s cell phone. Officers responded to this area and located the victim’s vehicle, which was parked at Soulsbyville Elementary School. The vehicle was not damaged or vandalized.

The suspect is described as being a white, adult, male, approximately 25 years of age, approximately 6 feet tall, wearing a black beanie and a black and white plaid jacket.
