Subject: Catalytic Converter Thefts
During the last four days, the Sonora Police Department has taken four theft reports involving the theft of catalytic converts from Toyota vehicles. Catalytic converts contain platinum and rhodium, both of which are expensive metals and currently have a high resale value.
All of the thefts have occurred during the day time and have been in parking lots. The thieves are targeting Toyota vehicles for two reasons. One is because most Toyota catalytic converts can be easily unbolted from underneath the vehicle. The second reason is because the amount of Platinum and rhodium is higher in Toyota catalytic converts than other manufactures.
The Sonora Police Department is asking for your help in this matter. If you should see someone crawling underneath a vehicle in a parking lot, or if you have any information regarding these thefts, please call the Sonora Police Department at 532-8141.
