Subject: Conspiracy Arrest
13 Aug. 2010, at approx. 6:45pm, officers from the Sonora Police Department responded to the Lower Save Mart regarding an adult utilizing several juveniles to steal items from the store.
During the investigation, it was learned that Leilani Serrano, 29, homeless, was babysitting five juveniles. Serrano took the five juveniles into Lower Save Mart and then had three of the juveniles’, ages 10, 12 and 14 steal approximately $158 in merchandise for her.
Serrano was taken into custody at the store without incident. She was transported to the Tuolumne County jail and booked for;
• Felony conspiracy to commit a crime
• Misdemeanor petty theft
• Misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor
The case has been sent to the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office for review and additional charges maybe filed regarding the use of the children to commit crimes.
