Subject: Drug and Weapons Arrest

5 November 2016, at approx. 1:00 pm, Officers responded to a shoplifter in custody at Wal-Mart. While responding, Wal-Mart reported they had released the male subject due to him making threats of violence towards the staff. The suspect was later identified as Edward Lee Jones, 25 of Jamestown.

When the first officer arrived, they observed Jones running through the Starbucks parking lot. The officer followed Jones in his patrol vehicle, and observed Jones to throw a plastic bag on ground. The bag was recovered, which contained 5.1 grams of heroin, as well as 3.0 grams of methamphetamine.

As the officer neared Jones, Jones lifted his shirt and removed a fixed blade knife from his pants. As the officer exited his vehicle, he removed his service weapon and pointed it Jones, at which time Jones threw the knife under a parked vehicle. Jones was then taken into custody. During a search of Jones’ person a stun gun was also located.

It was learned Jones is on parole for felony evading an officer. He also had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant for possession of drugs. Jones was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail where he was booked for felony possession of a concealed bladed weapon as well as misdemeanor; felon in possession of a stun gun, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled narcotic, plus shoplifting.
