Subject: Drug Arrest
30 Aug. 2010, at approx. 4:43 pm, officers from the Sonora Police Department responded to the Greenwood Village Apartments, located at 420 Greenly Rd., for a reported physical domestic dispute in the parking lot.
Upon the officer’s arrival, they contacted one involved party of the disturbance at the apartment complex, and the other at the County Children’s park, just south of the apartment complex. The subject at the children’s park was identified as Russell (Buddy) Lee Jr., 21, homeless.
During the investigation into the disturbance, an alert witness contacted the officers. The witness informed officers they observed Lee Jr. run into the children’s park and bury something in the children’s play area. Officers located the item, which was determined to be heroin.
The observations of this witness and their willingness to get involved possibly saved a child’s life. If not reported, it is possible that a small child could have found the heroin and ingested it, thinking it was candy or something else.
Lee Jr. was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Tuolumne County Jail for possession of a controlled substance.
