Subject: Drug Arrest
On 21 June 2010, at approx. 6:30 pm, officers from the Sonora Police Department responded to a residence on the 500 block of N. Stewart St. for a report of several juveniles under the influence of prescription medications.
During the investigation into this matter, it was learned that Zakary Howerton, 19, of Sonora, was responsible for providing the teens with the prescription medications. Howerton resides, with his mother, at the residence where this incident occurred.
After officers learned that Howerton was the supplier of the prescription medications, they began actively looking for him. On 23 June 2010, at approx. 8:00 pm, an officer noticed that Howerton was a passenger in a vehicle being operated by his mother. The officer stopped the vehicle and took Howerton into custody without incident.
Howerton was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for;
• Felony furnishing a controlled substance to someone under 18 years of age
• Misdemeanor sexual battery
• Misdemeanor annoying a child under 18 years of age
The case has been forwarded to the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office for review and possible additional charges against Howerton.
