Drug Paraphernalia and Parole Violation Arrest

On March 29, 2017, at about 6:45 A.M., the Sonora Police Department received a call from a tenant at an apartment complex on Green Street reporting finding an unknown male sleeping inside the apartment. The unwelcome guest, 35-year-old Matthew William Birdsong Jr. of Sonora, willingly left the residence prior to the officer’s arrival but the caller was able to provide a good description of him.

Shortly after the call, Sonora Police Officers located Birdsong walking on Washington Street in the area of Bradford Street. Upon detainment, Birdsong was determined to be on CDC parole for robbery and a search of his person produced several hypodermic needles. Birdsong was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and for violating the conditions of his parole. The reporting party did not wish to pursue charges for trespassing.
