16 December 2014, a veterinary service clinic located on Mono Way, contacted the Sonora Police Department and reported an embezzlement of funds and merchandise. The office manager and business owner related to an officer that an employee had taken funds and merchandise without permission. It was estimated that over $2,000 of combined merchandise and cash were stolen.
17 December 2014, an officer and investigator from the police department contacted the employee, Jennifer Hellquist, 35 of Jamestown, who admitted to taking the items without permission. Hellquist was taken into custody without incident, and booked at the Tuolumne County Jail for felony embezzlement.
The investigation into this matter is continuing.
