Flooding in Sonora
Just after 1:30 on Wednesday, March 6th, our area experienced significant rainfall resulting in the flooding of roads, businesses and some homes in Sonora. Mud, rocks and other debris were washed into the streets and several vehicles became stranded in the roadway.
The flooding is also believed to be the cause of an interruption to the emergency and non-emergency phone lines for the Sonora Police Department and the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department. For the time being, all 911 calls within the City and County are being routed through the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department and the California Highway Patrol.
We will still receive the information respond to calls for service as usual. The non emergency numbers for the Police Department are being routed through cell phones and we will receive those directly. Please use the following numbers for the Sonora Police Department:
209-532-8141
209-532-8143
209-454-7933
If you need to contact the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department, please call:
209-768-0934
209-768-3666
209-768-6043
AT&T is working hard to resolve the issue, but there is no estimated time frame given for the repairs.
Most of the roadways in Sonora are back open but please use caution as it will take several days for City crews to clear the debris.
