INJURY COLLISION – FINAL UPDATE

In reference to the vehicle v. bicyclist collision that occurred on June 5th resulting in injury to a ten-year-old boy; case investigators have determined that the driver of the 2013 Chevy pickup was not fault.  After reviewing evidence located on scene, multiple witness statements, and video obtained by a near-by business, it was determined that the bicyclist failed to yield to pickup which had already began forward motion after stopping to turn right at the intersection.

The Sonora Police Department would like to remind the public to always use caution when it comes to pedestrian crossings.  Although pedestrians generally have the right-of-way, they also must abide by the rules of the road. A pedestrian should not suddenly leave a curb and cross into the path of a vehicle that is close enough to be an immediate hazard.
