Subject: Juvenile Drug Arrests
21 June 2010, at approx. 6:30 pm, officers from the Sonora Police Department responded to a residence on the 500 block of N. Stewart St. for a report of several juveniles under the influence of prescription medications.
Officers contact a 17 year old male and a 16 year old female staggering down N. Stewart St. near Cowan St.. Both subjects were obviously under the influence. The male subject had 4 Xanax pills in his possession and the female had 20 Xanax pills in her possession along with a hypodermic needle. Both juveniles admitted to taking several Xanax pills with their friends at the residence.
At the residence, Officers located a 16 year old male and a 17 year old female. The female was incoherent and had to be transported to the hospital via ambulance because of the large amount of Xanax she had ingested. The other three juveniles were also transported to the hospital for treatment.
While at the hospital, the 17 year old male attacked one of the officers and attempted to remove the officer’s handgun from the officer’s holster. The officer was able to fight off the juveniles attack, but the officer sustained an injury to one of his hands during the struggle over the firearm.
All four juveniles are facing charges ranging from felony possession of a prescription drug without a prescription to misdemeanor being under the influence of a controlled substance.
The investigation into this matter is continuing in an attempted to locate where the juveniles had obtained the Xanax.
