Subject: Transportation of Narcotics Arrest
2 Sept. 2010, at approx. 10:22 am, an officer from the Sonora Police Department noticed a vehicle parked in a red zone on S. Washington St., just south of the intersection of Stockton Rd.
The officer contacted a subject sitting in the driver’s seat, and identified him as Joseph Gavi, 56, of Sonora. While the officer was talking with Gavi, the officer noticed a bag sitting in the passenger seat of Gavi’s vehicle.
When the officer asked Gavi about the bag, Gavi became nervous. Gavi then removed a large hand full of pills from the bag and attempted to swallow them. The officer was able to stop Gavi from putting the pills in his mouth and a physical confrontation ensued. Gavi was eventually restrained and taken into custody.
Gavi had numerous methadone and morphine pills in his possession, which he didn’t have a prescription for. Gavi was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for felony transportation and sells of a controlled narcotic.
