National Night Out in Sonora was a great success! This year’s event saw more than 60 people in attendance. The joint law enforcement presentation, sponsored by the Sonora Police Department, brought together the Sonora Police Department, Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office, Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department, and the California Highway Patrol.

Thanks to District Attorney Laura Krieg who was the guest speaker and spoke about AB 109, Prop 47 and Realignment. Officer John Bowly of the Sonora Police Department, spoke on how to become a better witness and gave some safety tips. Deputy Sheriff and Crime Prevention Officer Rob Lyons of the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department, spoke about safeguarding yourself and your valuables, along with jurisdictional boundaries.

Following the presentations and a question and answer period, several law enforcement personnel served the guests, as they made their way through the lines for ice cream sundaes and root beer floats.

Special thanks to Margret Roberts, who made all the table tops and center pieces for this year’s event. Because of her hard work, the Opera Hall was transformed into a Patriotic paradise.

The Police Department would like to thank Save Mart on Stockton Road for their donation of ice cream; Sonora Joe’s for their donation of coffee and supplies; Sgt. Glenn Roberts, and our Police Explorer Post 364 for setting up and disassembling the hall for the event. DSCN0779
