Subject: National Night Out

On Tuesday, August 4th, neighborhoods throughout Sonora are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 26th Annual National Night Out (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. NNO, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Sonora Police Department, will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states.

NNO is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness: (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts: (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime and drugs.

From 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7th, residents in neighborhoods throughout the City of Sonora and across the nation are asked to turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police officers.

Police Chief Mark Stinson would like to remind everyone that NNO is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. NNO showcases the vital importance of police community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight to build a safer nation.

Chief Stinson would like to invite the community to the Opera Hall on August 4th between 6:00 pm and 7:30 pm for an ice cream social. Dr. Todd Stolp will be giving a presentation on the illegal use of prescription medications, which will be followed by Chief Stinson and his staff serving ice cream to all the attendees. Come and join the Sonora Police Department at the Opera Hall and help give crime a going away party.

Please contact Chief Mark Stinson at the Sonora Police Department (209) 532-8141, if you have any questions.
