6 July 2010, The Sonora Police Department was involved in a vehicle pursuit. The driver abandoned the vehicle and left his passenger behind. The driver was identified as James Cotner, 45, of Ceres, but he was not apprehended. Cotner was on parole for residential burglary and was wanted on a parole violation warrant.

25 October 2010, at approx. 3:46 am, an Officer from the Sonora Police Department conducted an enforcement stop on Highway 108, near S. Washington St., on a 1991 Honda Accord for expired registration. Inside the vehicle were a male driver and a female passenger.

The driver had no identification and verbally identified himself. The Officer didn’t believe the driver. The female passenger was identified as the passenger that was with Cotner during the July pursuit. The Officer noticed that the male driver matched the physical description of Cotner. The driver denied that he was Cotner. Cotner was finally identified by the last name of “Cotner” tattooed on his arm. Cotner was taken into custody without incident.

It was later learned that the person’s name Cotner was using, resides in Sugar Pine and was recently the victim of a burglary. Located inside Cotner’s vehicle was some stolen property. Cotner was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked on a felony warrant for being a parole at large. The investigation into this matter is continuing.
