PG&E Phone Scam

The Sonora Police Department wants to remind everybody to beware of phone scams. There are many out there and recently we have been made aware of scammers impersonating PG&E representatives requiring payment for an updated meter. This scam, as well as many others like it, tricks the victim into wiring money or purchasing money orders in order to settle the debt.
• Legitimate business transactions will not seek payment in this manner.
• Never send money that is intended to secure a larger sum of money.
• Be skeptical about free trial offers.
• Don’t trust Caller ID.
• If you are the least bit suspicious…and you should be; research the company on line and call them through a publically listed number
