The Sonora Police Department is recruiting for the position of Part-Time Un-Benefitted Community Service Officer. This is a non-sworn, uniformed position within the Police Department. This specific position will be assigned patrol duties, which include, but are not limited to:

• Patrolling the City in a radio equipped vehicle
• Answering calls of non-hazardous incidences
• Preparing reports on; traffic collisions, burglaries, thefts, frauds, vandalism, lost and found property, and violations of the City municipal code
• Maintaining contact with citizens regarding potential enforcement problems
• Interviewing and/or photographing victims, reporting parties, and witnesses
• Gathering and preserving evidence of crimes
• Learning, interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes and regulations
• Directing and controlling vehicular and pedestrian traffic
• Serving subpoenas
• Testifying in court
• Performing other duties as assigned

Minimum requirements:

• Possession of a valid Class C California Drivers license and a good driving record
• Be able to work irregular hours, shift work, weekends, holidays and being able to respond to emergency calls
• Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED
• Be able to pass an extensive law enforcement background check

Desirable education and experience:

• Possession of a valid California Penal Code 832 Certificate
• Some college course work
• Training in law enforcement, criminology, police science or a related field
• Clerical or civilian law enforcement experience, including public contact and keyboarding

This is a part-time, un-benefitted position, with a salary range of $18.20-$22.12 an hour. The average work week will consist of approximately 20 hours a week.
