Road Rage Arrest

On Saturday, July 6th, the Sonora Police Department arrested 46-year-old Huron R. Liverman Jr. of Sonora for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with a vehicle following a suspected road-rage incident.

Just after 11:30 p.m., we were called to the area of Highway 49 and Preston Place for a disturbance at the side of the roadway.  When the officers arrived, they contacted several subjects in and around a 2007 Toyota Prius and a 2017 Volkswagen Golf.  The investigation revealed that Liverman was driving the Toyota behind the Volkswagen.  The victim reported to Police that the Toyota had been tailgating her for several miles, that it had passed her on a blind corner, and that it slammed on the brakes several times in front of her.  At one point Liverman pulled the Toyota to the side of the road and accelerated into the rear of the Volkswagen as it passed.  Both vehicles stopped, and an argument ensued between the drivers.  Liverman allegedly lunged his vehicle toward the victim during this time.

62-year-old John A. Chiarpotti of Sonora was a passenger in the Prius.  During the roadside argument, he jumped out, began kicking the Toyota, and pulled the rear-view mirror from the vehicle.  He was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor vandalism.

Both men were booked into the Tuolumne County Jail for their respective charges.
