Subject: Arrest from Officer involved accident
Following the pursuit and accident involving Officer Aiken of the Sonora Police Department, a criminal investigation was started to identify the driver of the vehicle, which Officer Aitken was pursuing at the time of the collision.
Officers were able to identify the driver as being Peter Loren Barrett, 20 of Sonora. Barrett was identified by witness statements and other items of evidence. Barrett is also the registered own of the 1994 BMW, which officer Aitken was pursing. This vehicle was located abandoned just a short distance from the accident scene.
At approx. 1:00 pm, Barrett called a local tow company asking if he could come down and pick up his vehicle. The tow company immediately contacted the Sonora Police Department. Officers staked out the area waiting for Barrett’s arrival. When Barrett arrived at the tow yard, the tow company contacted the Sonora Police Department and Officers took Barrett into custody.
Barrett was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for;
- Felony evading an officer and causing serious bodily injury
- Resisting arrest resulting in serious bodily injury
Officer Aitken is still listed in Critical condition.
