17 June 09, at approx. 12:07 pm, Sonora Police and Fire Departments responded to a reported rollover vehicle accident, with subjects trapped, on the 100 block of Stockton Rd..
When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they located a 2005 PT Cruiser on its left side blocking the eastbound lanes of traffic. Fire personnel had to extricate the driver and passenger through the vehicles windshield.
The driver was identified as Marvin Mitchum, 60 of Copperopolis and the passenger was his 13 year old grandson. It was determined that Mitchum was eastbound on Stockton Rd., as he was nearing the exit to Save Mart, he looked to his left for possible oncoming traffic. While doing so, he allowed his vehicle to drift to the right and impact a rock bluff, which caused Mitchum’s vehicle to roll twice, before coming to rest in the roadway.
Mitchum and his grandson received minor cuts and abrasions and sought their own medical treatment. Stockton Rd. was closed for approximately an hour while the investigation was conducted and the vehicle could be removed.
