Subject: Stolen Vehicle Arrest

26 September 2015, at approx. 9:44 am, the Sonora Police Department took a report of a stolen vehicle from the 100 block of Hillcrest Drive, located inside the City. A subject entered the victim’s residence and removed the keys to the victim’s vehicle, while the victim was working in their yard, then drove off with the victim’s vehicle.

29 September 2015, at approx. 3:17 pm, the stolen vehicle was used during a theft at Wal-Mart, in the Cross Roads Shopping Center. A male subject pushed a shopping cart full of unpaid miscellaneous items out of the store to the stolen vehicle, where he loaded the stolen merchandise in to the vehicle and drove off.

30 September 2015, a Sonora Police Sergeant and Investigator observed the stolen vehicle while on foot in the downtown area. One of the letters of the license plate had been altered with reflective tape to make an “F” an “E”. They were able to stop the vehicle at the intersection of S. Washington Street and Linoberg Street. They contacted Brian Knight, 38 of Columbia, who was driving the vehicle; and Brandon Boatright, 28 of Columbia, who was the sole passenger.Boatright, Brandon 2

Both subjects were taken into custody without incident. They were transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked. Knight was booked for felony possession of stolen property, felony altering a license plate, misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, one felony theft warrant, and two misdemeanor warrants. Boatright was booked for misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance.

The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
