Suspicious Package

16 November 2015, at approx. 4:26 PM, the Sonora Police Department received a report of a suspicious package outside the Tuolumne County IT building, located on the 1000 block of Morning star Drive. The call came in during the time all available officers were involved in the robbery investigation of the Wells Fargo bank.

The package was addressed to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Department, but had been placed outside of the County IT building. The package was determined to be suspicious in nature by staff inside the building and officers who arrived on scene. The IT building was evacuated as a precaution during the investigation. The Calaveras Bomb Unit was notified and responded to assist in the investigation.

Upon the Bomb Unit’s examination of the package, they were able to determine the package was a non-explosive threat. The incident was concluded at 7:30 PM. The investigation into this matter is continuing.
