Theft, Vandalism, and Felony Threats Arrest

On March 20, 2017, just before 9:00 P.M., the Sonora Police Department received a call from Save Mart on Mono Way reporting that a male subject had stolen cigarettes from their store and fled on foot. The aware store employee provided a good description of the subject.

Officers arrived in the area within minutes and located a male subject matching the description walking on Mono Way near Greenley Road. He was later identified as 18-year-old Mark Allen Ramirez of Sonora. When the initial responding officer attempted to detain and question Ramirez, he advanced toward the officer in an aggressive manner while yelling and clenching a full bottle of alcohol in his hand. The officer was able to gain Ramirez’s compliance without injury to anyone by ordering him to the ground at Taser-point.

While in custody, Ramirez made unequivocal threats to kill two Officers as well as a Sonora Police Volunteer who was also on scene. After further investigation, it was determined that Ramirez had also broken the store cigarette display, and had stolen the bottle of alcohol he was clenching while advancing toward the officer.

Rameriz was booked for felony threats against a public officer, theft, and vandalism. His bail was set at $20,000.
