Subject: Vehicle Accident
24 January 2016, at approx. 10:05 A.M., Officers responded to a reported vehicle accident in the City parking lot, located at the intersection of Shepherd and Branford Streets.
Breanna Althouse, 18 of Sonora, was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Passat northbound on S. Shepherd Street, when she made a left turn against a “do not enter” warning sign. For an unknown reason, as Althouse entered the parking lot from the wrong direction, she accelerated to a high rate of speed causing her to lose control of her vehicle.
Althouse’s vehicle struck several cement parking bumpers before hitting a Pacific Gas and Electric pole in the center of the parking lot. The force of the impacted snapped the power pole, and the light fixture on the pole struck another vehicle parked in the parking lot.
Althouse sustained minor injuries as a result of the accident and refused medical attention. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. It is not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.
