Vehicle Theft and Vehicle Tampering

Between Sunday, July 8th and Monday, July 9th,  The Sonora Police Department received four separate larceny reports involving vehicles parked at the Crossroads Shopping Center in Sonora.  Two of the four incidents were attempted vehicle thefts, and one vehicle was actually stolen and moved to another location in the parking lot.  Why the stolen vehicle was abandoned by the suspect is unclear at this point.  The fourth incident appears to be a burglary of property from the vehicle but doesn’t appear to be related to the other crimes.

All four of these vehicles were locked at the time of occurrence and the doors of each vehicle were compromised by pry-tools.  Our Officers are investigating evidence left at the scene and are working with local business establishments for potential video evidence.

We are asking the community to be aware of your surroundings at all times and report any suspicious activity you see to the Sonora Police Department at 209-532-8141.  We would also like to remind the public to lock your vehicles and keep valuable property out of sight while your vehicle e is unattended.
