Vehicle theft Arrest

On 03-18-2018, around 12:30 PM, Sonora Police Officers were called to the area of Highway 49 and Pesce Way for a possible drunk driver. The vehicle was described as a white Dodge pickup truck with paper plates. An Officer responded to the area and observed a vehicle matching the description pass him on S. Washington St. near Church St. The Officer was able to turn around and catch up to the vehicle. The Officer then conducted an enforcement stop and contacted the driver and passenger. The driver was identified as Daniel Lee Chisum, 22 years old of Modesto. The passenger was identified as Maurice Lincoln Matthews, Jr., 37 years old of Tracy.

During a records check of Chisum, he was found to have an outstanding felony arrest warrant. Chisum was subsequently arrested for his outstanding warrant. The Officer then conducted a records check of the vehicle, which was confirmed to be stolen from the Modesto area.

The Officer conducted a search of the interior of the vehicle and located paraphernalia known to be used for ingesting controlled substances. An investigation revealed the paraphernalia belonged to Matthews. After further investigation, Officers determined Matthews was not involved in the vehicle theft. Matthews was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia and released from the scene.

In addition to the outstanding arrest warrant, Chisum was charged with vehicle theft and possession of stolen property. Officers determined Chisum was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Chisum was transported and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail where he is being held on $30,000 bail.
