Subject: Vehicle Theft Arrest

6 Aug. 15, at approx. 7:55 pm, a subject stopped his vehicle at a business on the 300 block of Stockton Road to purchase a drink. When he went inside the business, he left his vehicle running. While purchasing his drink, he observed a Hispanic male enter his vehicle and sit in the driver’s seat and start to drive off with his vehicle.

The vehicle owner and another person exited the store and stood in front of the vehicle preventing the suspect from driving off in it. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled the area.

Approx. half an hour later, the victim observed the same Hispanic male subject walking on Washington Street in the area of School Street. Officers responded and contacted Santos Sanchez, 31 of Waterford. Sanchez was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked for felony vehicle theft. Sanchez is on probation out of Stanislaus County for unlawfully causing a fire and vandalism.
