Vehicle v. Bicycle Collision

On Sunday October 20th, just before 11:00 am, the Police Department responded to an injury collision involving a bicycle and a 2005 Black Nissan Sentra on Sanguinetti Road at Greenley Road. The 13-year-old male bicyclist was riding southbound on the west sidewalk of Greenley Road. The bicyclist did not or could not stop for the eastbound Nissan, which had the right of way due to the green light. The bicyclist struck the left front quarter panel of the Nissan, narrowly avoiding impact with the front of the vehicle.
The 13-year-old bicyclist sustained severe injuries, including several broken bones, and was ultimately transported to a valley hospital for treatment. It was determined that the bicycle did not have properly functioning brakes and that the 13-year-old rider was not wearing a helmet at the time. The driver of the Nissan was uninjured but understandably very shaken over the incident.
