Criminal Threats and Felony Assault

28-year-old Corey A Ross of Sonora was arrested on Monday, April 13th  for threatening and pistol-whipping another man with what later turned out to be a fictitious firearm.

On Friday evening, just after 8:00 pm, the Police Department received notification of a disturbance at a homeless camp near Lowe’s.  Our officers responded and met with a 34-year-old male who reported having been assaulted by Ross.  It is believed Ross fled the area as officers were arriving on scene.

The victim reported that during the confrontation, Ross pulled out a semi-automatic pistol and hit him in the head with it. Ross then cocked the weapon, pointed it into the victim’s face, neck, and abdomen while on top of him and threatened to kill him.  Although the victim sustained injuries to his head and torso, none were severe in nature.  The suspect and victim are known to each other, and the altercation reportedly started over accusations of theft.

Officers checked the area for Ross, but was unable to locate him or his vehicle.  A be on the lookout Ross and his vehicle, a blue and white Ford van, was shared with local agencies.

Yesterday afternoon, at around 5:00 pm, one of our officers spotted the van associated with Ross at Rotary Park on Woods Creek Drive.  The officer located Ross and took him into custody for Friday’s crime.  During the arrest, the officer located a metal frame slide action pellet gun, believed to have been used in Friday’s assault.

Ross was in the company of 28-year-old Michael A. Ramos of Jamestown, who although not a party to the original battery investigation, was arrested on two outstanding felony warrants.
